Left: The Clifton Hill Shot Tower, east of downtown at the east end of Alexandra Parade (originally Reilly Street) and Copper Lane in Collingwood. It was built in 1882 to manufacture lead shot. Although it looks like a smokestack, it functioned completely differently. Lead would be melted at the top and dropped down the length of the tower, forming round droplets on the way down, hitting a basin of water at the bottom and instantly solidifying into bullets. I'm sure it wasn't the safest place to breathe. At 80 metres tall, this was the tallest shot tower in Melbourne for some time.

The Age Newspaper was located near the airport in Westmeadows along State Route 43. This is now a car dealer repair facility along Freeway M2.
