Victoria - Flinders St. Railway Station

Flinders Street Railway Station, Melbourne

You get a glimpse of 1909 Art Nouveau architectural greatness pulling into the station from the west.

A lot more architectural greatness is to be found at the main entrance along Flinders and Swanston Streets.

Here are some of the more interesting details that I didn't want to lose to resizing.

Interior details, featuring the front window of the entry chamber.

Now looking up at the ornate dome ceiling.

The clocks might be the most famous part of the station. People use "under the clocks" as a reference point for the entire city. They date to 1910 and have been deemed irreplaceable by the populace, such that Metro Trains has had to automate these clocks (they used to be turned manually to the next departure time) instead of using modern display boards.

Dumb Ways to Die (you'll definitely want to click that) was a campaign for railway safety begun by Melbourne's Metro Trains in 2012. The idea is, if you're too smart to eat superglue from the tube (that's what this is, not toothpaste), you're too smart to play around the tracks. This really just makes me want to eat toothpaste, though. Maybe I should rewatch the video.
