Tasmania - Highway A10 - Lake Burbury-Gormanston

Lyell Highway, Highway A10
Lake Burbury to Gormanston

Perched on the Bradshaw Bridge across Lake Burbury, I have chosen to organize these photos from south to north instead of chronologically. The first two photos were the last two I took.

Say hello to Thureau Hills, Mount Owen, and its extension North Owen Peak. You'll be seeing these guys for a little while.

Continuing my pivot eastward, Marble Bluff is to the right of North Owen Peak from this vantage (and farther north), and the last photo looks back at the other side of the Bradshaw Bridge.

Two Owens and a Thureau, as Lyell Highway curves west again.

A look southeast, south of the Bradshaw Bridge.

Before I curve back north, here are closeups of two of the three Thureau Hills peaks and a back slope of Mount Owen.

Mount Owen to start, North Owen Peak to end.

One last look back at the south half of Lake Burbury.

Starting in the north at Marble Bluff once more, my rotation takes me past Eldon Peak (1st photo right) and the Eldon Range (2nd photo), which is north of the Nelson River, back to the Raglan Range, which is south of said river.

Back to North Owen Peak, then pivoting around Lake Burbury to the southeast.

Lyell Highway turns west once more to follow Linda Creek, with Mt. Lyell on the right until it gives way to an iron mine west of Linda. The rocky photos are Mt. Lyell foothills.

Looking ahead in Linda, then back at the backside of North Owen Peak.

As the road twists and turns, the first photo ends up looking relatively south, while the others are passing the "Iron Blow" mining area to the north. Roads in Australia are not assigned directions, only destinations, so I use "north" and "south" to describe the ultimate heading of the road, but the road may not always obey.

The highway bends so far back south that it ends up heading nearly east again as it skirts the hillside toward Gormanston. I'm looking to my left, which is normally west or south, but here it's actually north at Mt. Lyell and you can see the road I just traveled.
