New Zealand - O̅amaru - Thames St. - S.

O̅amaru - Thames Street south of Steward Street

Picking up on the east (left) side of the road.

To the west, I come across the 1884 Italianate style Chief Post Office, used since 1994 for the Waitaki District Council.

More views and details. Apparently the clock is a rare feature, since most old buildings in New Zealand had theirs removed due to seismic risk.

Empire Hotel, back to the west side.

O̅amaru's second WWI monument (there's one on the main page, outside downtown) is in the median. Maybe we'll call this one a cenotaph since it's more impressive.

Next we have, side by side, the 1870 Bank of Otago (left) and the 1884 Bank of New South Wales (right). The first photo includes the 1877 Colonial Bank of New Zealand in the background, just two doors down. For a city you've never heard of, O̅amaru seems pretty important.

Better shot of the Colonial Bank.

I figured out this photo from Humber Street is the back of the NSW bank.

The AMP Society built this one in 1874. It's at the south end of Thames Street.

From there, St. Luke's Anglican Church is to the right, just west of (and clearly visible from) Thames Street on Itchen Street.

One last look back up Thames Street from Itchen Street.
