New Mexico - NM SR 1/old US 85 scenery

State Road 1 scenery (former US 85)

Photos were taken southbound and progress in that direction.

Starting off facing northwest, though.

Sunrise.

All facing west, or some variant thereof. For example, you can still see the same mountains I called "northwest."

Now looking more southerly. Most of the photos on this page have some west component to them just because anything to the east would get washed out by the sun, while anything to the west would be lit in high contrast.

Looking southeast and northeast.

Near and far, to the west.

East and south, showing how hard it is to shoot even a little bit into the sun.

A few minutes later, what was south in the previous photo is now to the west.

Sandstone formations to the east, getting brighter as the camera turns south.

One long southern to western panorama.

Down into Nogal Canyon briefly (you see the road heading back up the other side in the last photo).

Panning from north to south along the east wall of the canyon. Interstate 25, the modern replacement for US 85, crosses on the bridge in the distance.

Looking south and west, exiting the canyon.

A different set of views, but also looking south and west at basically the same location. You know the scenery is amazing when you can take photographs in the same directions and get different images.

Passing by some formations on the west side of the road.
