New Mexico - US 66/I-40/US 54

Interstate 40/former US 66 (and US 54) scenery

Panning from north to east in McKinley County, where over 10 miles of old US 66 have been completely subjugated by I-40. Sit back and enjoy the ride for a bit:

All on the north side of I-40 between Exits 36 and 47.

Now around mile 130 in Cibola County, looking north.

Same place, looking south.

The highway dips through a rock cut, exposing layers of sandstone to the north.

Looking south at mile 143 and east at mile 148, west of Albuquerque. Most of old US 66 is drivable through this area, so I'm only on I-40 to "connect the dots" as needed.

Heading west from State Route 14 back toward Albuquerque.

US 54 has joined I-40 as I head east toward Cuervo, and scenery unfolds on the eastbound side of the road.

Looking north (across the westbound side) at Cuervo, then jumping east to mile 321 near Tucumcari.

Views to the south and east from there.

Beautiful geology on the north side of the road just before the Tucumcari exit (329).
