North Carolina - Durham

Durham

All photos head east along Main Street, Business US Route 70.

I happened by at the tail end of the 1926 McPherson Hospital's life. It was in the process of being completely gutted and the façade thoroughly renovated to become a hotel. Unfortunately, it's just a shell now, but at least it looks restored.

"Brightleaf" is a euphemism for "tobacco," which is what the Watts and Yuille warehouses were all about when they were built in 1904. If this place ever catches on fire, the entire city will catch lung cancer.

This is clearly the warehouse district, and everyone's moving in to the old buildings. These are just a block or so east of Brightleaf.

Just on the east side of downtown, the 1916 First Presbyterian Church.
