Florida - Key West - Fort Taylor

Approaching the fort from the parking lot. It's surrounded by a moat, and the third photo is to the left of the first two photos across that moat, clearly where there was some other structure. Maybe not a building, but possibly a dock.

Inside the fort, nothing particularly interesting. The area is under construction and only one or two rooms had anything to see. I see rifle cartridges and cannons, but there's no telling if this is for an exhibit or actual materiel for reenactments. Either use requires a lot of work from this point.

Time to march on up to the top of the fort with everything abandoned and overall in rough condition. The only thing restored is the coat of paint.

Clearly more work to be done before the restored fort is properly converted into a museum, but the cannonade is well prepared for the rogue yacht sailing too close to shore.

Looking west from Fort Taylor at Kingfish Shoals. I focus in on the three islands to the right - Crawfish, Archer, and Mule Keys.

The 34 star flag waves in front of Sunset Key. That's how many states there were from 1861 to 1863, including the seceded Confederacy. Talk about your big assumptions.
