District of Columbia - July 4th

July 4, 2009

Every year I try to go somewhere different to see the fireworks. The Washington Monument made for a nice background, so that's most of what you'll see here.

This had to be someone important.

Alternating views west at the monument and east toward the Capitol and the crowds lazily stretching over the expanse of the National Mall. Finally, darkness falls, and celebration is nigh.

A bunch of photos and then a video for good measure.

Alexandria had their own, much smaller fireworks across the river, but they were occasionally visible enough to draw mention from the crowd.

Six photos and a video of the finale. If you visit, do not by any means attempt to access the subway at Union Station. Skip a couple stations and walk 10 minutes farther, save 45 minutes.
