Griffith Park, as I depart LAX. The "Hollywood" sign is in the mountain folds at top center.


The San Gabriel Mountains in Angeles National Forest.


In the distance, this might be the Sierra Nevada.


Ten minutes later, I find myself in the Mojave Desert north of Barstow. The last photo may be Telescope Peak.


The desert gives way to the Avawatz Mountains, followed by Kingston Peak, and I leave the state with a look at the Nopah Range and the desert lapping against it like a lakeshore.
