Arkansas/Texas - Texarkana - US Post Office/Courthouse

(Texarkana)

Looking south at this 1933 building, notable for being the only Federal building to cross state lines. It has courts from two different circuits (5th for Texas, 8th for Arkansas) inside, let alone two different districts. It sits smack-dab in the middle of State Line Avenue, necessitating the only interruption in its alignment as traffic has to go around either side. It even has a light-up star on top! (Which is the most important fact.)

Photos from the Texas and Arkansas sides, respectively.

Northward photos and some architectural details on that side.

Some additional history for you.

Okay, I'm "here." Now what?

Looking south from the middle of the steps.

If I crash right here, where do they bury the survivor?

Looking southwest at the Tex in Texarkana. Hey, let's check out that monument.

Apparently, this is a monument to the Confederate loss in the Civil War. (Technically, the "Confederate Mothers Monument.") It always surprises me to see states embrace the romance of history while ignoring the heritage of civil war and Southern slavery.

Looking east and west - the latter is one of my favorite photos ever.

Walking north, I come to a "COLUMN." Why yes, yes it is. A column of "PATRIOTISM", at least on the south side.

I see "COURAGE" and "FIDELITY", and it's a column "OF ME... PIES." Well, I do like pies.

Okay, it's actually a monument to the World War (I). I can't find a view of the north side to determine the missing letters, but "MEMORIES" may be the best fit. (I was just kidding with the pie thing.)

The west side has a list of Texan war dead, and the east side has Arkansawyers.
