Alabama - Decatur

Decatur

Aptly named Bank St., paved like it's 1899.

Bank St. then turns and gets paved, but the buildings aren't any newer and the trolley tracks never came up. Turn the cars into horses and you're instantly transported back - that's the beauty of Decatur.

More of the same on Moulton St., facing east. I was zigging and zagging through the district of historic houses, so I couldn't tell you where on Moulton this is. This town deserves as much time as you can give it.

A sample of the many historic houses of Decatur, some of which are antebellum (and it's pretty clear that "some" is a sizable percentage).
