Alberta - Highway 2

Highway 2 new and old

Approaching sunrise north of Calgary.

I switched to old Highway 2 for the main event. Photos start north of Airdrie and end on Highway 2A where it begins south of Crossfield.

Looking northeast in Crossfield, Didsbury, and back on modern Highway 2 at Highway 587 in Bowden.

Downtown Red Deer, 49 Ave. (old Highway 2) at 50 St. The building dates to 1931.

Another old building takes us to Edmonton, 104 St. (old Highway 2) heading south at 82 Ave. NW.

Highway 2 eventually curves west, and I found these former log houses around Berwyn.

Highway 2 eventually curves back south again in a candy-cane shape, and here it approaches the valley of the Peace River. (Stitch the photos together as left and right.)

The descent into Dunvegan to cross the river.

The southerly ascent, where the interesting scenery is all to the west.
