US 60, Huntington and west

WB photos across the Big Sandy River into Kentucky, looking south at the parallel railroad bridge. The Kentucky sign and the end of the Midland Trail are posted on the WV side, but the entire river is still in WV. The last photo is the Kentucky approach to the railroad bridge, included here for completeness.

EB, panning left to right, at a railroad trestle in the middle of 13th St. in Kenova that becomes the Norfolk Southern Ohio River bridge.

WB at the same bridge.

Looking north and south along 13th St.

We finally get a railroad at grade instead of elevated. These photos are WB entering Ceredo and then the tracks are on the Kenova border.

WB across Fourpole Creek into the Westmoreland neighborhood of Huntington, which lies in Wayne County instead of Cabell County and is known for this scary clown. With a name like Justice M. Chambers, the Colonel missed his calling as a judge.

Chesapeake was pasted over with Ironton on these EB signs. In this direction, I prefer Chesapeake because it's east of here (although only reachable via OH 7), whereas Ironton is back from where I came.

In the WB direction, I do prefer Ironton as a destination given the prior rationale, although I would prefer it even more in button copy.

US 60 WB turns left on 1st St. to get from 3rd Ave. to 4th Ave. west of downtown Huntington.

WB past 15th St. to the Robert C. Byrd Bridge, WV 527. The bridge is only in WV for 1/4 mile, so the 1/2 mile advance sign should not include a square shield despite the sign being in WV. Also, it implies WV 527 is to be found at OH 7, which is certainly not the case. Follow the WV 527 link at the bottom of this page for clearer views of the sign and bridge.

US 60 EB leaves downtown Huntington and comes to the end of its run on 5th Ave. at the East Huntington Bridge. US 60 WB is on 3rd Ave. until this point, the end of the one-way pair, so turning left does indeed effect a U-turn, but also provides the access to continue northeast along the Ohio River on WV 2.

This is what you'll see by turning left. Only recommended if you like old signs.

US 60 WB up to 5th Ave. The entirety of WV 106 is a hidden route on this side of the East Huntington Bridge, but it's just signed in either direction for what's across the river.

EB at and past 8th Ave. on the way out of Huntington.
