I actually like how this came out with the dual exposure. It's so jarringly... abrupt.


Look. I'm here to document the old, the unusual, the forgotten. This is an old sign. But I feel the need to point out that this is a racist term used to denigrate Aboriginal children in the 19th century. The fact that this name has carried on so long, with no objections that I can find, is shameful and a black eye on Australian culture. I don't think it's right to just leave this photo here and move on without framing the context of why this is wrong - the same wrongness that American slaveowners and prejudicial Caucasians applied to African slave and freedmen children. It will never be right.


Moving on to the Wannon River and an old alignment to my right.
