Oregon Roads - OR 273/old US 99

OR 273, former US 99

All photos are southbound.

OR 273 loops the loop and crosses itself (and a railroad) on this nice span, the 1914 Steinman Bridge.

Don't be surprised that the next bridge along also dates to 1914, the Dollarhide Bridge, and the wooden guiderail at the end doesn't look much newer. It also crosses the same railroad, which continued south from the Steinman Bridge and looped back north in a horseshoe curve to slowly climb toward Colestin. OR 273 is also climbing toward Colestin but can do so much more quickly. US 99 originally went that way and then turned south to Cole and Hilt, CA, but was then rerouted along what's now the I-5 corridor.
