Ohio Roads - Center St., Cleveland

Center Street Bridge, Cleveland

Detroit Ave. NB approaching the west side of the bridge as it's just about to open. The 1957 B&O Railroad bridge is behind it, permanently up.

While I'm stopped here, let's look up at the 1917 Detroit-Superior Bridge (after the avenues it connects) arcing overhead.

There we go, reopened so I can drive east across this 1901 swing span and then under US 6/US 20/US 42/OH 3 all at once.

Back west under the Detroit-Superior Bridge with views of the stone Superior Viaduct and the B&O Railroad bridge. It appears the Center St. Bridge has a stone drawhouse.

Looking south from the bridge at the Detroit-Superior Bridge, which is completely not the same as Superior Viaduct except it basically superseded it.

Continuing west under the 1878 Superior Viaduct, used for all manner of transportation for 45 years and now just a place to park, as far as Washington Ave. for a view of the OH 2 Main Ave. Bridge, then looking back east at the Viaduct and the bridges we saw above.

Bonus coverage of the Center St. bridge swinging open to accommodate Cuyahoga River boat traffic, photographed from above on Superior Viaduct. You can see the swing mechanism below the bridge, the control house, and the 1953 Flats Industrial Railroad Bridge (typically raised) with the 1932 Hope Memorial Bridge (OH 10) behind it.
