Floral lamps adorn Great South Road in Papakura. They may be inverted versions of ko̅whai, which normally hang upside-down. Historically, there was one road from Auckland heading south to all points, and that later became NZ 1 (which is now on a freeway).


Papakura's namesake statue is a WWI memorial.
