One of the first signs as the route begins. The part of the NZ 1 motorway to the north is newly built and tolled, while heading straight is the former NZ 1, slower but free.


Remnants of NZ 1 abound. The blue signs are rather old.


All of these are to old national highway standard. The squiggles are on opposite sides of the road.
