Historic NJ 51 Ends

51 was part of US 322 and the designation was removed in 1953.
Historic Western End

51 ended at NJ 44 (now US 130) and NJ S44 (US 322 to the west) in Bridgeport. 44 was on Main St. until 1937 when the current US 130 bypass opened, but that only moved the termini of S44 and 51 by a block north and still within the current cloverleaf interchange.

Modern 322 east to the exit to 130 south, the location of the beginning of 51 but now elevated instead of at grade.

322 west at the exit to 130 south. 51 historically ended here and S44 went northwest into the remaining alignment of NJ 324.
Historic Eastern End

51 ended at NJ 42 in Williamstown.

322/historic 51 east turned north from CR 536. CR 536 Spur does not begin until 322 meets 42 at the signal in the distance, which is the historic end of 51.

US 322 west at what is now the beginning of 42. Historically, 322 turned left onto the beginning of 51 and 42 continued straight.

322 west now uses this jughandle from 42 north to turn left. It is signed but, as noted above, not actually CR 536 yet. The north-south connection to 536 is only 322, and historically 51 as well.
