NJ 495/Historic I-495 Ends

I-495 existed in New Jersey from 1959 to 1979, when FHWA decommissioned it and NJDOT reverted it to NJ 495.
Western End

495 ends at I-95 (NJ Turnpike Easterly Alignment) in Secaucus.

495 west follows the left ramp split to merge into 95 south.

95 north to the Interchanges 16E/18E toll plaza. The lanes on the right go into Interchange 16E. 495 east begins toward the Lincoln Tunnel in the last photo.

From 95 south, the access to 495 east is via Interchange 17, numbered differently because it uses a separate toll plaza. This ramp merges into 495 east as it curves away from 95 north.
Eastern End

495 enters New York in the Lincoln Tunnel in Weehawken.

495 east into the South Tube of the tunnel to the marked state line.

The marked state line in the Center Tube, which can flow east, west, or both in its two lanes.

The North Tube heading west to the marked state line where 495 west begins.
