New Jersey Roads - Bergen CR 55

You're lucky, there are very few county shields on Hackensack St., Terrace Ave., Polifly Rd., or 1st St., all of which are parts of CR 55. The length of CR 55 was originally NJ 17 (born NJSHR 2), which then continued west on Passaic St. and north on Paramus Rd. to the other remaining piece of old 17, Franklin Turnpike (now CR 507). The first three roads I named above, through Rutherford, East Rutherford, Carlstadt, Wood-Ridge, and Hasbrouck Heights, were the first to be bypassed by the current stretch of signalized 17, and then came the remaining unsignalized portions in pieces (signalized pieces, at first).

After much scouring, I found a second shield, just a minute before CR 55 SB ends at Meadow Rd./Erie Ave.

All remaining signs were taken northbound.

Courtesy Charlie O'Reilly, owner of the late, great Highways of Bergen County website, Meadow Rd. NB at the beginning of CR 55 in 2000, now gone. CR S-55, the old number on the sign, is Hoboken Rd. a short distance to the north, a straight line connecting Paterson Plank Rd. where it dips to the south.

Old signs, with the last one on Franklin Ave. WB coming from NJ 17.

The first shield is at US 46 EB, then the next two are on the left and right sides at I-80 itself. Notice that the state-name shield is next to a RIDOT-style non-cutout shield, presumably for I-80 West.

One more old sign, including the only 6-mile advance banner in the Western Hemisphere. I made that up, so prove me wrong.

Into Hackensack. The high school overpass is just north of Beech Street.
