Missouri Roads - Old US 61, Pemiscot Co.

Former US 61 in Pemiscot County

Three pairs of NB and SB Pemiscot County route shields, heading south from the New Madrid County border. If you fly by on I-55, these may just look like pentagons with the typical gold on blue color. Take my advice - don't fly by. You'll be hard-pressed to find a shield standard less suited for cutouts than this shape, thanks to the Mississippi River. Click on the last photo for a closeup if you want to try to reproduce the shape yourself, say for threatening your neighbors.

Entering New Madrid County, I fork straight on Huffman Ave. NB instead of following the curve of SR T/old US 61. These signs aren't shaped funnily but they are very old, dating back either to when this was still US 61 or just after it moved onto I-55.

Main St. EB, connecting back to old and current US 61 at MO 162, through downtown Portageville on the west side of the railroad tracks.
