Maryland Roads - Alt. US 40

The sign above is at the end of Old National Pike just east of Frostburg, secretly MD 743 and original US 40 before Alt. US 40 was built. There are two roads designated Alt. US 40 in the state:

Western Alt. US 40

~ Casselman River Bridge

Eastern Alt. US 40

Courtesy Scott Sullivan, just west of Cumberland (in fact, 6 miles west). There are so many fake stones along the National Road, I have no way of vouching for the authenticity of any that I see. The weathered appearance of this one could be a positive sign that it's 200 years old (obviously, the lettering has been touched up in that time), or it could just be rust on a modern metal replica.

Onto parent US 40
