SB at the southern end, but I believe this old sign is gone now with its message of 3 miles to Rte. MA 53 starts and ends at MA 3A and is actually a shortcut for the route. I believe that this was original MA 3, and it's entirely possible that 3A between the two ends was always 3A (whereas the rest of it had originally been 3). Otherwise, this became 53 when the coastal route was constructed.
