Kentucky Roads - US 431

US 431

All photos are northbound and within about 1,000 feet near Owensboro.

Just a terrible choice of shield shape by Kentucky.

The Parkway shields are ugly as sin, but the old-spec US 60 shield on the left earns a break. Compared to the one on the right, the curves are scalloped more deeply and a little more black space is left around the shield, without compromising the size of the digits. The specification changed in 1970, so signs like these are a dying breed. Conversely, the larger first letter for directional banners is seen on the brand-new one to the left, leaving the older banner above the newer shield.

Overhead at Salem Drive, cute but barely worthwhile.
