Kentucky/Ohio Roads - KY 17/Roebling Br.

KY 17, Roebling Bridge

All you need to know is writ large across the Kentucky entrance to the bridge. Like many of his earlier designs, it is built with an incredible amount of redundancy: extra diagonal cables and a full steel truss support system. That's why it's still able to carry automobile traffic 142 years later.

Some of the details along the way as I continue north to Cincinnati. The date above the second keystone appears to say 1865 - piers are the first elements to be built of a suspension bridge, so this is not surprising.

Looking back toward Covington and the Ascent building.
