The remains of Henry Flagler's railroad to Key West, which was partly destroyed by a hurricane in 1935. The Pigeon Key Visitor's Center is located in Marathon on Knight's Key, because there is no motorized transportation to Pigeon Key (it's off the old Seven Mile Bridge). After the 1935 hurricane, the Overseas Highway came to be because the railroad was unable to rebuild itself. At first, the highway was laid over all of the railroad trusses, but one by one those were replaced until only the Bahia Honda Bridge was left. That's now a popular state park and an opportunity to walk on the highest point in the Florida Keys (unless there's something taller in Key West). The original highway bridges were also replaced (in the 1980s), but most of them have been left just next to the current bridges, so there are some great photographic opportunities. Visit the Florida Keys page (linked above) to see many of them.
