California Roads - US 101 SB - Los Angeles

US 101 southbound, Los Angeles

My first breath is where the last two signs are left and right on the same gantry.

My next breath is the same as the previous caption, and US 101 leaves the Ventury Freeway for the Hollywood Freeway.

The Barham Blvd. exit (11) is gone now.

Coming up for air once more, and this time the last two signs are to the left and right of each other but on separate structures. The second and third photos are left and right on the same structure. In this space, CA 2 EB joins US 101 SB for a short spell.

This time, the second and third photos are on the left and right of the same gantry. I included more of the last sign support because once you take this ramp, you won't find any indication of where the Alternate is to these routes. You could go straight to the next onramp (see the following photo) but that doesn't seem to help much compared to staying on US 101.

As noted, the first photo comes back on from Mission Rd. (Exit 1E) and US 101 comes to an end after crossing under the now-demolished 6th St. viaduct. The last photo isn't inaccurate - you have to exit right before bearing left to Soto St. - but it sure looks confusing from this angle. On the other hand, the photo showing "South 5/101" is inaccurate, at least as of 1964 which predates this generation of button copy.

Bonus: As US 101 is about to merge into I-5 SB, here is one last gasp of freedom.
