Hawai`i - O`ahu

O`ahu

Aloha Stadium, home of the (University of) Hawai`i Warriors and the NFL Pro Bowl, though it will need a lot of work to continue in those roles. It's falling apart, and all those once-movable pieces that are now stuck in place don't help the matter. (Seats could be arranged for football, baseball, or concerts. Now it's just football, and those other events have to make do or leave.)
Windward Coast

Looking west at the Ko`olau mountains (all part of an old volcano) from Kane`ohe Bay Drive, Kane`ohe. The bay is just to the right.

Driving northward along the Windward Coast on HI Route 83 to Mokoli`i Island, also known as the Chinaman's Hat. That popular name is of course now politically incorrect, and Chinaperson's Hat won't fix it.

The closest approach to the Hat is Kualoa Park, where you can see across Kane`ohe Bay. Palm trees make everything scenic.

Dole Plantation

Looking west from the Dole Plantation along HI Route 99. That's not an evergreen tree, just a deciduous tree that looks like one from afar; the leaves give it away upon closer inspection. An Impressionist plant, as it were.

Not all pineapples are the large golden variety you get in the supermarket. Most of these varieties aren't widely farmed around the world, although of course in some places they contribute to sustenance.

This was just my second full day on O`ahu, so the bright green, blue, and yellow really got to me.

Bananas and sugar cane along the Plantation railroad, now reduced to scenery but once part of a network of agricultural railroads on the island (and on others as well).

The Wai`anae Range seen from former County Route 803.
