Ontario Roads - Niagara RR 54

Niagara Regional Road 54

Starting at the bottom, RR 54 turns into Highway 58 at Highway 58A. This isn't magic, though; Highway 58 once ran up RR 54 to Thorold Rd., former RR 538. Presumably RR 54 only began there at that time and continued up Rice Rd.

NB passing a former railroad swing bridge over the Welland Canal in what was then Crowland and is now part of Welland. Because there's no railroad here anymore, the bridge is permanently open. It doesn't matter, though, because there's no canal here anymore either - it was rerouted around the east of the city.

Thorold Rd. WB at Rice Rd. This shield was probably erected in 1997 when Highway 58 was decommissioned, because before that time this would have been a black on white reassurance marker for 58 SB itself.

Another old one showing its age much worse, RR 54 NB. This seems older than 1997, so I wonder if it was reused from an intersecting street.
