Louisiana Roads - LA 31/96

Old meets new in St. Martinville, and I wish it didn't. The white on green signs are distinctive and jive well with the general greenery of the state. Black on white, not so much. All photos are NB.

Just after beginning, LA 31 turns left onto Jane St. in New Iberia.

Now into St. Martinville. Read up on the legend of Evangeline as an introduction to Acadian and Cajun culture - everywhere there's French-American heritage, there's some version of the Evangeline story. In Louisiana, her story centers around a particular oak tree in this town.

The front of St. Martin of Tours Church - not only is he the namesake of the town, but, of course, he's French.

Not something you'd advertise now.

Onto LA 96 alone
