I-74/US 6 EB (really heading south) across the Mississippi River into Illinois (the state to the east). The reason I-74 now exists in North Carolina is that its route from here to Cincinnati heads southeast, so it seemed a logical route to extend, even though it now heads south of I-40 and has no prospects for completion in Ohio or West Virginia.
